Fyre Festival a commentary on influcence

After watching both Hulu and Netflix’s documentaries on the whole entirety of the Fyre Festival incident.  For those of you who haven’t heard of the Fyre Festival: it was a festival that was the brain child of Billy McFarland.  Billy McFarland used the power of the influencers of social media and ultimately the disappointment following the poor planning and false promises of the festival.  Big ticket musical performers were originally billed to be attached to the festival but slowly one by one dropped out.

Hulu’s approach to the documentary varies slightly to Netflix’s approach.  Hulu presents a full background on Billy McFarland and the impact of social media influencers (mostly millennial).  Showing how much of a Con artist and liar Billy is.  Netflix shows more in depth information of the on-goings of the festival and more background information involved.

Both however showcase how poor planning, deception, influencers and lying can come to harm.  Each of the documentaries show moments of the media coverage given highlighting the hype and downfall of the festival.

Many involved in the festival did not get paid, those that paid for these amenities did not get their proper accommodations.  Those that tried to return after the first day waited hours after their initial departure time.

As a takeaway one of those involved that tried to tell others how bad it is:

Let me know what you think about the documentaries.  Is it a clear reflection of how bad the Festival was and the lies, deception, and cons of Billy McFarland.

How far are we going to let others influence how we think and act?  Do we instantly accept what is shown to us?  Or do we start to question is that how things really are?

Looking to the past for inspiration

It’s 2019 and you’re wondering to yourself… Where did all the good music go?  What can I listen to, to inspire myself and motivate myself?

Kesha’s Rainbow

Ever since her abuse was made public and courts ordered she continue working with her abusive producer Dr. Luke, fans worried for pop singer Kesha. The tag #freeKesha swept across social media showing their love and support for the artist. Then in August 2017, Kesha returned with a new album called Rainbow made without direct influence from Dr. Luke. The result is breathtaking. Her creative freedom in this album is clear with songs about letting go, finding self love, and not caring what others say. To fans, it’s like a whole new artist. To Kesha, it’s cathartic.

This is an explicit CD, so only a few songs will be covered in this review. The first big hit to come from Rainbow was “Praying,” Kesha’s triumphant return to the radio. She admits she’s been through such pain, but hopes Dr. Luke finds peace, even if “some things only God can forgive.” It’s a powerful statement about acknowledging what you’ve been through and how it helped you change for the better. A similar song is the same as the album itself, “Rainbow.” Featured in the video above, Kesha sings about how she found hope in the darkest of times. She encourages others to find their own rainbow, to keep on living, and to “come and paint the world with (her) tonight.” Slightly more upbeat is “Learn to Let Go,” a more dance-able version of the previous two songs and how to move on from your past. The best line that everyone should follow is “live and learn and never forget it.”

Despite her suffering, Kesha still has fun songs in store for her fans. “Let Them Talk” is a great song to jump and dance to that doesn’t want you to listen to bad opinions from others. “Boogie Feet” is simply a song about dancing. She wants everyone to join in, begging “dance with me.” “Woman” is just for the ladies, praising how she doesn’t “need a man to be holding (her) too tight.” Kesha has always been known for fun party songs, but before they had been about drinking and partying all day. We’ve always loved them, but they were a product of Dr. Luke’s image for Ke$ha. Kesha hasn’t lost her party spirit, but is writing for herself now, not for some image.

Kesha is a fantastic artist worthy of respect. Her album Rainbow is a marvelous comeback greatly welcomed by fans. All she wants is to love and help others feel loved. I am one of many who will be eagerly waiting for whatever she comes up with next.

Disney Performing Arts

If you find yourself in Disney Springs this summer, go see the Disney Performing Arts (DPA) at Disney Springs. The DPA invites students to perform in different locations of Walt Disney World Resort. Over at Disney Springs, I had the opportunity to watch them sing in front of World of Disney. They were marvelous! They sang popular songs from Disney, Broadway, and more. My personal favorite performances were their covers of “Seasons of Love” from Rent and “Won’t Say I’m in Love” from Hercules. I love how everyone was assigned to certain roles for different songs. It gives everyone a moment to shine and some of the singers got very into character. Their performance of “Let’s Get Together” from The Parent Trap was a lot of fun to watch. Come on down to see these talented singers!

Nicholas Marks

Do you ever see someone do something and just know they love it? That’s how I felt watching Nicholas Marks at Disney Springs. Marks is a guitarist who adds a Latin flare to popular songs and performs his own original pieces. He performs Wednesday through Sunday nights from 6pm to 9pm.

There is a lot of passion in his performances. Every now and then he would stand up to dance to the music and do a few tricks with his guitar. One moment he raises it above his head and plays it perfectly, the next he spins it around and continues without missing a beat! The crowd adored it and he loved their joy.

You can follow Marks on Instagram at nicholasmarksmusic or visit his site nicholasmarks.com, where you can purchase CDs of his music. His songs are also available for download on iTunes.
